Ovaj dokument definira pojmove vezane uz moderne postupke radikalske polimerizacije, gdje neki aditivi reagiraju povrativo s radikalima, omogućujući reakcijama poprimanje odlika živućih polimerizacija premda je neizbježno u određenoj mjeri zastupljena i terminacija. U novijoj tehničkoj literaturi za ove se reakcije, osim ostalih, upotrebljavaju i neformalni nazivi, "kontrolirane", "kontrolirane/ živuće", ili "živuće" polimerizacije. Ne preporučuje se uporaba tih naziva.
